The feeling this morning is pretty meh.
Girlfriend left very early because her job is switching her to France hours.
I woke up at around 5 am but forced myself to sleep until 8 am.
Bisho has been puking all over the place.
It’s now 10 am and I don’t see where this week is going.
There.
I just deleted the photo mission from the whiteboard.
I killed it on Friday. I’m still really happy about how them pictures turned out. Editor is on 4th of July break though, so I won’t really know if I got what they need. I’m positive I did. I’m excited to see what makes the cover shot.
There.
Just deleted two other things from the whiteboard. I didn’t go see Chon/Covet in San Diego on Saturday because I didn’t want to leave my girlfriend by herself. And I didn’t go to a photographer’s reunion two weeks ago because it was really far.
The writing part of the whiteboard remains virtually the same.
Shit tons of ideas, the lack of desire to work in any of them. One idea that is not even up there is probably what I’m going to force myself to work on today. Just do it. If I get rejected, then fuck it. If not, then great!
But the feeling is very meh.
The weekend was great. This Monday is meh.
The girlfriend arrived tired from work on Saturday. She took a nap while I moved shit around the apartment. I moved the bookshelf from the left wall of the living room to a side of the television. From horizontal to vertical. Living room feels more spacious now. Bookshelf looks cleaner.
I also moved the stack of magazines to the side of the couch. Huge stack of magazines. Many from years ago from my paparazzi days and a lot from the San Diego Reader. The idea is to throw them away after clipping away my articles and pictures. Make a nice big folder with my track record of almost a decade in magazines.
I also got shitty studio lights. You get what you pay for. And I basically paid for three lamps with two big umbrellas. They are not worth it. I might upgrade the bulbs and try to see if that makes it better, but it doesn’t look good. I should get strobes. I had a dream that I found my brother’s old Alien Bee strobes. I need to save money for strobes. I’m probably going to sell the lights I bought. They do me no good.
MEH STUDIO LIGHTS.
I wished I had more gigs like I did on Friday, but every week. Three to five times a week. Even more.
Back to the weekend.
I let my girlfriend nap for a long long time until I was very hungry and had to wake her up to go eat. We’ve tried going to Cine Tonalá to eat 0n multiple occasions before, but it was always too full and we never wanted to wait. That Saturday night, there was a 30-minute wait. We went to go grab a beer at Teoerema/Lúdica while we waited for our table. Pale ale from Lúdica, IPA from Teorema. The IPA was better. Pale ale was lacking body.
Oh yeah. I skipped the blog yesterday.
I was lazy.
Saturday we went from fighting, to being great, to fighting, to being great, to some drama, to more enjoying the night. It was a weird fun night with weird things that happened that this time I won’t talk about.
The food at Cine Tonalá was really fucking good. The service was also quite good. Girlfriend requested super spicy chiles toreados like the norm in every restaurant, even when they don’t serve them. They prepared some of the best chiles we had. Super fucking spicy as well.
I got the rib-eye. She got a tuna and shrimp tostada, as well as a fresh tuna tostada. The rib-eye came with a side salad that she loved, that she ordered some (though again, not on the menu).
Rib-eye was quite good, but I’ve had better (not in Tijuana though). Pictures are on the Tijuana Adventure Instagram to push food pics there.
We accompanied the meal with beers and drinks. She got Victorias, I got a Negroni and then a Gin and grapefruit drink that was bomb.
After Cine Tonalá we went to the pop-up store on the new Sara Building. It was meh. Drama happened.
Drama got resolved.
We went to Nelson Bar where I got lucky and got a red star! Fuck yeah! Free drink!
But… also… drama started.
Drama got resolved.
Oh yeah. It’s July already.
Still feel very MEH about it all.
Sunday. I don’t even remember much of Sunday morning.
Oh yeah.
Confederations Cup final. Germany won it. It was nice. I thought Chile was going to take it, but the young Germans deserved it.
Girlfriend went to do extensive laundry like every Sunday.
I said I was going to do what she wanted. I didn’t.
I insisted on going to the pop-up store again. She wanted to go to Playas to try the oysters from a restaurant that it is barely okay (it would be much better if they didn’t blast shitty music).
But!
But!
The pop-up store had oysters. And they turned out to be the best oysters we’ve encountered so far (and also the most expensive). These fuckers were gigantic! Even one of them had more little oysters on the outside of it with even more oyster meat. Crazy giant suckers. Totally worth it. We were both happy.
I took a bunch of pictures and stories for Tijuana Adventure. I haven’t had any tours or mentions of tours lately. I should really fix the page.
MEH.
My brother and his wife were there with the baby. So we hung out at the pop-up store with the little baby for a while and slowly drank some beers.
We also went to Cine Tonalá for the second time in a row and got the bread and dips that my brother recommended. He was spot on. It is a great appetizer, very cheap, and filling.
I had the Old Fashioned, subbed the Wild Turkey (which they use) for Makers Mark… it was so tiny but good. I want to make my own old fashions at home, fuck paying $8 for a tiny pour of bourbon.
Pic is obviously better because daytime = better light. Bread and dip appetizer again, fucking good (and only $5).
And back to the pop-up store where we just hung out and drank beer.
We killed it early because she needed to go to bed early to go to work. I didn’t want to sleep early, but I did just because of her.
And now all the feeling is just MEH!
And it’s celebrity throwback Monday.
I wanted the featured pic to be about food, but I guess it will be the celebrity. Let’s see. Who can be good?
Fuck it.
I’m lazy and I got hungry.
After viewing some folders, I found Al Pacino. Scarface was playing at Nelson Bar yesterday. He seems fitting.
Here’s the thing about Al Pacino. HE IS A FUCKING SUPER NICE GUY!
Who would’ve thought, huh?
I saw him a handful of times. But I’m just going to post one unedited picture because lazy and hungry and this is already over 1,000 words.
The celebrity aspect of my blog tends to be less and less each time anyway.
Al Pacino, August 2nd, 2010. That day I also shot Ashley Tisdale, Emma Roberts, Giovanni Ribisi, Keri Russell, and Will Arnett.
That time I barely got pictures because he was “snuck out” from the side door. When he got in his car, he was still nice enough to open the door and sign a lot of the posters and what not that graphers were handing to him. Seriously. He is a really nice guy.
Fuck. Ribisi looks stylish as fuck. Also posting that picture.
Ribisi was not that nice, given that one time I bumped into him at the bathroom, and after that took his picture…. But I respect him a lot as an actor.
Bisho puked again. That’s like the 5th time this morning… sigh. meh.
Push-ups? Breakfast. Shower. Push-ups!
I’m fat.
MEHHHHHH
